Behavioral Health Services awarded more than $29 million in grants

On of San Diego County s adult outpatient behavioral medical centers File photo courtesy of the county San Diego County s Behavioral Healthcare Services department has been awarded more than million in state funding which will go towards two new facilities offering mental physical condition and substance use therapy services it was reported Wednesday The funding which comes from a voter-approved bond will create a Substance Use Residential Medicine Services or SURTS facility in National City and a Children s Predicament Residential Care facility in Kearny Mesa the county announced A million award will help create the SURTS facility which will offer up to new substance use residential healing beds and recuperative care beds for people who are eligible for Medi-Cal officers explained Renovations at the National City facility are expected to be completed by late next year A million award will go towards the children s care facility which will be within the county s Polinsky Children s Center It will include new children s emergency residential beds and county administrators expect construction to be completed sometime in Nadia Privara acting Behavioral Wellbeing Services director explained This major expenditure will fill critical care gaps in our system and assistance the recovery and wellbeing of specific of our majority vulnerable clients The Substance Use and Residential Rehabilitation Services facility provides new options for adult clients needing residential therapy and the Children s Predicament Residential facility will create a much-needed pool for youth in our behavioral strength system Along with those awards the county also communicated Behavioral Robustness Continuum Infrastructure Effort grant funds were awarded to five other behavioral robustness providers in San Diego County Palomar Healthcare Foundation received million for an acute psychiatric hospital in Escondido InnerTribal Healing received million for an adult residential SUD therapy facility in Pauma Valley McAlister Institute for Cure Training received million for an adult residential SUD healing facility in San Diego Casa de Amparo received million for a psychiatric residential therapy facility in San Marcos and Epidaurus Amity Vista Ranch received million for an adult residential SUD medicine facility in Vista County officers announced the seven grants are expected to add healing beds and medication slots combined to the region
