San Diego Unified will host third ‘Money Festival’ for unclaimed college funds
Eugene Brucker Mentoring Center is the headquarters of the San Diego Unified School District File photo San Diego Unified School District will host its third CalKIDS Money Festival of the school year Saturday at Crawford High School The festival will allow students to access unclaimed college funds to help pay for higher schooling This school year more than students have received access to more than in accounts opened through this project state-provided college savings funds already earmarked specifically for them Our responsibility to our students doesn t end at graduation announced Fabi Bagula San Diego Unified School District s interim superintendent This initiative ensures that even after students leave our district we continue supporting their journey toward higher coaching Helping them access these funds is a tangible expression of our belief in their likely and our commitment to their future success The CalKIDS undertaking is California s automatic scholarship initiative and the nation s largest child enhancement account operation It provides eligible California inhabitants school students with scholarships worth up to to ease financial walls to higher coaching a comment from the district read Students in second through th grades who meet specific criteria can access substantial benefits including for foster youth and homeless students With college decisions being finalized and summer approaching this is the perfect time for San Diego families to claim money that s already been set aside for their educational future commented Sharon Whitehurst-Payne trustee of the SDUSD Board of Coaching Preponderance of our students don t realize they qualify for these funds which require no essays recommendation letters or minimum GPA requirements Crawford High School was selected as it houses the district s newcomer center designed to help refugee students ensuring these vulnerable populations can also access available educational funding According to the district the event will also have on-site assistance from district staff to provide Statewide Attendee Identifier Numbers and CalKIDS operation representatives to answer questions It will also feature a supply fair car show live music and free refreshments while supplies last The event runs from a m to p m at Crawford High School Colts Way City News Utility
